Millard Fillmore Museum

The Millard Fillmore House is a unique historical attraction located at 24 Shearer Ave, East Aurora, NY 14052. It was built in 1826, and was the home of the thirteenth president of the United States, General William H. Seward. Today, it serves as a museum store. Visitors can learn about the life of the 13th president of the United States and the people who shaped it.

The Millard Fillmore Museum history center will offer photo sessions for visitors on July 27 and 28th. You can pose vintage-style in a three-seat surrey donated by Ed Godfrey. In 1832, Eli and Abigail Godfrey purchased a plot of land on Pine Street and moved it to Buffalo. They eventually lived there for many years, serving as city officials and members of the state legislature. Elgene E. Godfrey was born in Buffalo and worked at the family's general store.

In 1830, Millard Fillmore moved to Buffalo, NY. He would make Buffalo his permanent home for the rest of his life. He would go on to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives for ten years before running for governor of New York. He lost the election, but he stayed, thereby delaying the outbreak of the Civil War. The erasure of slavery caused the beginning of the Industrial Revolution.

The Fillmore House is a historic landmark in Cheektowaga. It was built in 1830 and remained in that condition until it was purchased by artist Margaret Price in 1930. In the early 20th century, the fillmore house was used as a studio. In 1975, the Aurora Historical Society restored the home. The interior of the house has period pieces dating from the 1830's, antique toys, and a carriage barn.
